Paints & Coatings Testing
The purpose of paints and coating testing is to help and ensure that the minimum requirements for ingredients and material characterization are met by the manufacturer and to help ensure that the formulated product will provide satisfactory performance in the environment
Some of the Paint Testing done by METS LAB are
- Abrasion Resistance test: To help in determining the ability of a coating to resist degradation
- Adhesion Testing: To ensure that paint and coating will adhere properly to the surface to which they are applied
- Alkali Resistance of paint: To determine the degree to which a paint resist reaction with alkaline materials such as lime, cement, etc
- Cass Test :To help in determining the corrosive performance of decorative coatings on steel, zinc alloys, aluminium alloys and plastics designed for serve service
- Chemical Resistance Test: To help in determining the ability of a coat to resist chemical deterioration or staining
- Condensing Humidity Test: This test helps in determining the resistance of organic coatings by controlled condensation.
- Coating Thickness Test: This test helps in determining the thickness of paint plating, coatings and galvanization on iron steel.
- Chip Resistance: This test helps in determining the resistance of surface coatings (paint, clear coats, metallic plating, etc.) to chipping caused by the impacts of gravel or other flying objects.
- Coating Hardness Test: This test helps in determining the hardness of the paint coat.
- Coating Surface Roughness /Profile: The proper and effective preparation of a surface prior to coating makes sure that the correct roughness or profile is generated.
- Condensing Humidity Test: This test helps in determining the resistance of organic coatings by controlled condensation.
- Crosshatch Adherence Test: This test helps in determining the adhesion of a large variety of coatings.
- Cyclic Corrosion Test: This test helps in determining the corrosion degradation of coating systems for steel bridges.
- Drying Time Test: This test is done to know the timeline, when a coating is totally dry.
- Failure Analysis Test: This test helps in determining when, where, and how the paint or coating failure can occur.
- Falling Weight Test: The ability of a pipe coating to avoid mechanical damage during handling, shipping, and installation depends on its impact resistance.
- Flexibility Test: This test helps in determining the ability of a coating system to withstand the stresses of fabrication
- Scratch Tester: Scratch Tester is the most common method of accurate measurement of thin-film coating adhesion.
- Volatile Content Test: This test helps in determining the weight per cent volatile content of solvent-reducible and water-reducible coatings.
- Water Resistance Test: Water can cause the degradation of coatings, so knowledge of how a coating resists water is helpful for assessing how it will perform in actual service.
- VOC Emission Test: Determination of VOC release into indoor air is the purpose of emission testing and is done by simulating a model room in emission test chambers. Test method:- CDPH method version 1.2,ISO 11890, Part 1: Difference method, Part 2: Gas chromatographic method, Identifying VOC as per USEPA
